Mitch Eddy has worked in the field of male reproductive biology throughout his career at academic and government institutions. He is Emeritus Scientist in the Reproductive and Developmental Biology Laboratory, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the National Institutes of Health.
He received his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and was Professor in the Department of Biological Structure at the University of Washington School of Medicine before joining the NIEHS to become Head of the Gamete Biology Group. His research using knockout mice has provided proof of concept that proteins encoded by the targeted genes are prospective targets for the development of male contraceptives.
Mitch was on the Executive Council of the American Society of Andrology and on the Board of Directors and served as President of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, and is on the Executive Committee of the North American Testis Workshop. He chaired a Gordon Research Conference, was a Visiting Scholar at Monash University, served on NIH Study Sections and Center Review Panels, and has been on editorial boards of journals in the field of reproductive biology. He received an NIH Research Merit Award, the Distinguished Andrologist Award of the American Society of Andrology, and the Distinguished Service Award of the Society for the Study of Reproduction.
